With all the fun we’ve been having recently, it’s easy to forget that it was all in the name of fundraising. Our weekly pub quiz hosted at Wild Rover hostel seems to be getting busier every week, and to confirm our place as the trivia maestros of Arequipa, we started a new monthly quiz night for long-term residents in the city.
We’ve also been rocking out and held three gigs in the name of HOOP, featuring amazing acts such as Mr.B, Los Pibito Orquestra (pictured below), and performances from HOOPsters Tom, Michelle and Eric (in the picture above) and Ezequiel. Thanks to Chaqchao and La Luciernaga for hosting the gigs!
For people who like to hit the dance floors of the White City (and that’s a lot of people), we’ve thrown three parties so far this year. With great music, glow paint and an amazing team effort from all our volunteers involved, we’re starting to put our name on the Arequipeñan night scene. We even had one of our volunteers, Spencer, up in the DJ booth keeping the dance floor moving at one of our parties at Baron Rojo! And for the first time, we teamed up with fellow NGO, Intiwawa, to make the party at least twice as awesome. Our most recent party took the people of Arequipa on a journey to the past four decades with retro music, and also marked our second party at Circus this year.
So far this year we’ve raised more than $3,000 USD from local events to support our project in Flora Tristan!
For all the fun we’re having raising money here, we’re extremely grateful to our supporters overseas – remember, money raised back home often goes a lot further than money raised in Arequipa.
So… Special thanks to Anna Mazurkiewicz for holding a bake sale at her old school in Poland, which raised $275! And Anna Potemans put her Belgian waffle making skills to use and sold an astounding 3000 waffles, making an incredible €1,445 for HOOP! Well done both of you and thanks!
